Hacking the Streets: Rolling Out ActiveTO
Toronto’s new ActiveTO initiative, launched on May 6, is intended to provide space on streets to help residents get outside and get around safely while respecting physical distancing, and includes measures such as quiet streets, closing major roads and expanding the bicycle network. This conversation will delve into the ActiveTO roll out: what’s worked, what more is needed, and what should be done next. We’ll look at how the program could be strengthened to support active transportation over the longer term, and what other cities Toronto can draw inspiration from.

Moderated by Toronto Star and City Hall Watcher reporter Matt Elliott, and featuring experts Dr. Raktim Mitra (School of Urban and Regional Planning, Ryerson University), Michael Longfield (Interim Executive Director, Cycle Toronto) and Amanda O’Rourke (Executive Director, 8-80 Cities).
